Project- based learning is the new cool thing when it comes to education. With all of the new technology with cell phones and apps, it is the new popular thing to do. Personally, I think that it is an effective way to teach students. I do not remember doing much of this growing up and coming through school. But from what I have read about this teaching method, it challenges the kids to learn the skills and then apply them to their hands on work. The more that the students do it, the better they will be at it. It will start to be engraved into their brains and it will be easy for them.
Project based teaching style has benefits such as the concept of the students knowing the material and understanding the topic. The will no be able to memorize information. This is what comes down to actually learning the materials and being able to perform the tasks when it comes down to crunch time.
Another example of a benefit of using a project based teaching style is that students cannot simply memorize information to use it on this project. To actually create something pertaining to the subject they’re in, they must possess an innate understanding of the topic. This encourages further research on subjects, as well as guaranteeing the students retain the information instead of letting it simply float through one ear and out the other. This could be a problem though. All students are not the same, they learn in different ways, and they comprehend material at different speeds. This for example could be very frustrating and overwhelming to a student if they cannot comprehend the material correctly. This could lead to kids giving up and falling behind in the learning process. That is not something that you want to happen in your classroom. So if you chose to use this method then as a teacher, you have to be patient with your students and be there for them if they need help. Your job is to encourage them to do better so that they do not think that they are a failure!
